What happens if my rate lock expires? If your rate lock expires you need to know what to do to protect yourself. Mortgage companies and mortgage lenders handle expired rate locks differently depending on company policy, interest rates, and who dunnit. You may be in for a real shock if you loose your rate lock. Interest rates go up and down daily. You could end up with a rate much higher than you were originally quoted.
